Frequently Asked Questions about Head Spas
Head spa treatments, often referred to as “scalp treatments” or “scalp spas” have become increasingly popular for the benefits related to hair health, relaxation, and well-being.
Here are some commonly asked questions about head spas:
What is a head spa?
A head spa is a treatment primarily focused on the scalp and is designed to cleanse, stimulate, and nourish the scalp and hair follicles. A headspa refers to a scalp treatment designed to boost both your scalp’s well-being and your hair’s overall health. This rejuvenating experience involves using specialized products to detoxify your scalp. Through a soothing deep tissue massage, the treatment encourages circulation and stimulates your scalp. It’s akin to treating your scalp to a facial – a refreshing indulgence for your head!

How should I prepare for my appointment?
To prepare for your appointment, we kindly recommend that you come in with comfortable clothing on and with your hair that has been brushed and detangled to the best of your ability,
While we do detangle and brush your hair before our head spa treatment, excessively tangled and knotty hair may result in a deduction time from your head spa session, so it’s highly recommended brush your hair before coming in.
We also kindly recommend that you wear minimal/no jewelry during your session.
Please do not wash hair before coming to Appointment.
What clothing should I wear for my appointment?
What if you have 3A to 4C Hair Type?
We do accept 3A to 4C hair type.
If you have just taken out your braids, braids with extensions, and dreadlocks that we CAN ONLY accept you after you have washed your hair at least two times and untangled and unmated your hair with your Salon Hair Specialist.
Our salon has the right to refuse service. We are not equipped to unmate your hair or detangle your hair after a braid is taken out. We specialize in scalp care and scalp health.

Due to the nature of our treatment, head spa treatments are best suited for hair that can be brushed through thoroughly. If you have hair extensions, braids or dreadlocks, we do strongly recommend undoing them completely before your appointment, this will help to ensure that we can offer you the best and most enjoyable experience possible to be able to get to your scalp.
If the hair is too matted, then unfortunately we will be NOT be unable to accommodate you at this time.
Currently not accepting if you have extensions, braids, and dreadlocks in place as the scrub brush can cause loosing to any of those braids and extensions.

The ingredients we use in our services are all of high quality and a professional range, these are safe for all types of hair.
However, if you recently completed any type of colour services within a week before your head spa appointment, there is a chance that the color may lift from the hair during our detoxing process, specifically fashion colours (bright reds/pinks/purples/blues etc)
At ph Head Spai we do recommend that our head spa customers wait at least a week after any kind of chemical hair treatment before receiving a head spa.
Can I get a head spa if I have a keratin straightening done to my hair?
Please always consult with your hairdresser first before booking a treatment with us, Alternatively you can always book a head spa treatment with us about 1 week before you are due for your keratin straightening top up!
Can you cater for clients who suffer from psoriasis?
However because psoriasis is technically an auto-immune condition there is no guarantee that head spa treatments will cure/clear up your psoriasis completely, but there are also some great benefits for our psoriasis clients!
Scalp massages are a key component of a head spa treatment, This can help to increase blood flow to the scalp, which can promote healing and reduce inflammation of psoriasis.
Our exfoliation treatments can help to remove dead skin cells and other debris from the scalp. This can help to reduce itching and flaking, Our Nourishing and moisturizing treatments include soothing agents, this can help to soothe the scalp and prevent dryness
Please be sure to communicate with our staff about your psoriasis and any concerns you may have.
